On Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 8pm PBS will carry an episode of their Genealogy Roadshow which includes a segment on descendants of Nathaniel Dickinson. In particular, a descendant of Nathaniel’s daughter Hannah, Hugh Brown, and his wife Renee, were interviewed concerning their Dickinson and Clary ancestors.
Many of you are probably familiar with this series, which begins its new season on January 13, 2015. In addition to the interview with the Browns, Roadshow has done research on Nathaniel’s descendants and we hope to have access to this in the near future.
Hannah Dickinson married John Clary and all her Clary descendants can be listed in our main genealogy, but after the 7th generation our information tapers off dramatically. We very rarely see any descendants of Hannah at our reunions. Only one of the last 12 reunions included descendants of Hannah; that was 2005 when there were two. We are thankful to the Browns for contacting us and also providing us with much missing genealogical information.
Update on Hannah Descendants
As anticipated, the episode of Genealogy Roadshow aired on January 27, 2015, and the first segment featured Hugh and Renee Brown sharing some of their family history. Their interviewer surprised them with the information that they were related to one of America’s most famous poets, Emily Dickinson, but also had to break the news that they were notdescended from the Vikings, as they had thought.
He set them straight on the correct English origins of Nathaniel Dickinson and referred to the important 1995 article by Clifford Stott which documents them. Hopefully many of you were able to see the episode and those of you who attended our 2013 reunion will remember our main speaker, Clifford Stott, and his very interesting remarks about his research.
As a bonus, we are hoping that some members of the Brown family will be joining us at our reunion this June, bringing some Hannah Descendants to a reunion after a 10-year absence!
